ACMC has maintained a strong working relationship with the Solomon Islands National Disaster Management Office through support to various exercises and activities in recent years, including the last NERT Induction Course in 2023

Civilian agency participation in military exercises has increased over the last ten years. This is a welcome development as exercises provide a platform to strengthen Australian whole of government crisis prevention, preparedness and response capability.

ACMC has worked with Tuvaluan authorities and Australian and New Zealand stakeholders to further build Tuvalu capacity to prepare for and respond to natural disasters. Tuvalu is particularly at risk from tropical cyclones and associated storm surges and flooding. In recent years, the Pacific Island nation has been impacted by inundation from king/spring tides (Feb 2024), Cyclone Tino (2020) and Cyclone Pam (2015).

ACMC, in collaboration with the Townsville City Council’s Local Disaster Management Group, hosted a disaster management workshop with a visiting delegation of disaster and emergency response officials from Papua New Guinea.

ACMC hosted representatives from various Timor-Leste disaster response agencies in Darwin to share experiences and knowledge on civil, military and police coordination in disaster response.
